How I Got 30,000+ Views on My TikTok Video
Is it luck, hack, or just comedic nonsense?
I once heard my brother say ‘TikTok is the new Facebook’. That was back when I was disgusted by the thought of even just creating an account on the app.
When I thought it was just for dancing kids. Now I’m writing an article on how to get more views on TikTok.
Imagine that.
He’s right though. TikTok, for their generation, was what Facebook is to mine.
Taking Stock With Teens released a Generation Z survey of 7,100 teens last spring indicating that only 2% of teens rate Facebook as their favorite social media platform.
While last year, TikTok wasn’t just the most downloaded social media app. It was the most downloaded app, beating Instagram by more than 100 million downloads.
How I got my 30,000 views on TikTok
TikTok isn’t just for dance challenges anymore, it’s one of the biggest market hubs for online creators.
Yes, even writers.
Kelsey Kryger, for example, is a Medium writer who constantly pops up on my TikTok feed. One that I remember watching was her video writing an article for Medium.
It just goes to show that you can promote your writing everywhere.
There are so many ways to market your skills and services online as a content writer in this digital world, especially if you’re not camera shy.
But if you are, I’m sure there are still many options like voiceovers and cold e-mails. If not, make one. It’s a creative job after all.
Strategies on how to get more views on TikTok
- Always use a #hashtag.
This is what tells the lizard robots on TikTok where to categorize your video, helping them spread it to your catered audience.
It also helps other TikTok users to find similar videos they enjoy under the same hashtag.
My video has the hashtag #toronto.
2. Pick a popular song
One thing I love about this app is its never-ending supply of good songs.
More than your favorite song, your song choice should be trending. There are exceptions to this rule, of course, but why not swing the odds in your favor.
A trick is to select the most popular song as your background music and just turn the volume all the way down if it doesn’t fit your video.
You’re welcome.
3. Pick a niche (or not)
From answering how-to questions to baking Disney-themed food, there is an audience for everyone on TikTok.
Some might argue that you have to pick a niche on TikTok to grow a following, and I personally agree that it has its advantages since you’re easily searchable for people with the same interest.
But, there are major TikTok creators who don’t and they make it work. So just keep doing it and figure it out along the way, just like anything in life.
4. Showcase your skills
Duets are a huge thing on TikTok. Sing, dance, or heck even lip-sync like Filipino TikTok star Bella Poarch who got famous for lip-syncing “M To the B” when it was trending.
Find your aesthetic, listen to your audience, look at your numbers, and showcase yourself — that’s a sure-fire way to get more views on TikTok or any social media site.
5. Upload consistently
You can’t be seen if you’re hiding, so get yourself out there and create content consistently.
It’s the law of digital creation even before TikTok was born. The Martians controlling the Internet favor creators who consistently feed them numbers, A.K.A. your content.
It tells them “hey, we should boost up this guy since he’s always here.”
I’m not crazy, but it seems like that’s how every search engine’s algorithm work sometimes.
Is TikTok good for a side hustle?
In July 2020, TikTok launched its Creator Fund, a program to show its appreciation for the content creators on the app.
TikTok has pledged $300 million to creators who are eligible for the Creator Fund program.
To be eligible for TikTok’s Creator Fund you must be:
- 18 years old or above
- At least 10,000 authentic followers
- Have more than 100,000 views accumulative of all videos posted within 30 days
- Residing in the US, UK, Germany, Italy, France, or Spain.
Learning how to get more TikTok views, especially with no followers, through reading articles is one thing but pushing through with actually creating is the tough part.
More so consistently creating, but again that’s how the Martians controlling the Internet puts you on the good side of the mysterious algorithm.
