Best Medium Publications for Your Self-Improvement Articles
Disclaimer: All publications are listed in no particular order and are subjective
The self-improvement tag has almost 200,000 posts on Medium, it’s one of the most used tags and from what I’ve seen, it’s probably the second most written about next to personal essays.
Who doesn’t love a well-written article about self-improvement, right? I usually read them when in line for something or on a commute. Reading articles from Medium has saved me from boredom many many times.
One of the reasons why I stuck with writing on Medium is because of the ‘freedom’ it gives to writers. Hell, we can write about our sexual fantasies and still make a couple of bucks from it.
I’ve been writing here on Medium since August 2019 and publications really helped me gain traction; so this is my not so ode for those publications that cater to personal development/self-improvement.
Here are the best publications on Medium for self-improvement:
The Startup
This publication is the most active Medium publication with over 500,000 followers created by Ali Mese.
They focus on entrepreneurship, business, or anything that has anything to do with those two. I’ve seen recent articles on the publication that were slightly out off topic — personal essays and writing, so maybe they’re loosening up a bit.

Post-Grad Survival Guide
PGSG has almost 17,000 followers on Medium and was created by Tom Kuegler and Stephen Moore.
This publication is one of the first ones to take a noob into it’s arms. Yes, I’m talking about me.
From the name, I guess you could take a wild guess what kind of articles they like: anything that is related to being a post-grad.They could focus on work, freelancing, relationships, life lessons, finances and travel.

Better Marketing
This publication has over 23,000 followers on Medium and was created by Niklas Göke, a self taught writer and a digital marketer.
As per their page, Better Marketing is here for those who need to gather attention for a great product.
Their goal is to help you become the kind of marketer the world desperately needs: the kind that can deliver and deliver the right way. They cover every aspect of what it means to be that kind of marketer.
I heard it’s kind of a Medium partnered publication, and can give your articles a curation boost.

The Writing Cooperative
It has over 175,000 followers on Medium and was created by Justin Cox 🍩. The other editors are always nice to me, in their small way. So that’s a plus.
Everything they publish falls within their mission statement: helping each other write better. So if you have articles about that, I suggest submitting to them. They’re awesome.
They kind of have a strict formatting guideline, which if you submit and your article doesn’t follow, they’ll actually tell you and ask you to resubmit.

Live Your Life On Purpose
This publication has over 6,000 followers here on Medium and was created by Steve Spring.
As per the pub, if you have a story that relates to:
- Health & Fitness
- Life & Learning
- Personal Finance
- Productivity & Purpose
- Individual Success
then you’re welcome. Aside from self improvement, it’s also a good publication to submit your personal essays to.

The Ascent
I owe a lot to this publication. I remember being so new to Medium and the feeling of finally getting into a publication. That’s what I think about when I see the pub.
They’re very diverse in terms of niches. The Ascent is a community of storytellers documenting their journey to happiness and fulfillment; they’re also an advocate of creating, fostering, and sustaining social good.
The Ascent has over 75,000 followers here on Medium and was created by Steve Campbell, along with Melissa Berdine.
Here are their submission guidelines.
Most of the publications listed above are pubs that I can personally attest to but a couple I think are generally good from what I heard and see from writers I admire.
If you think I missed out on a good publication for self-improvement, let me know!
